Pre-conference Workshop Presented by Alison Betz
Sunday, April 27th
1:00 - 5:00 PM

Tailored to help fleet management professionals build a proactive safety culture driven by behavioral science, attendees will discover how to implement behavioral methods to improve safety performance, lower incident rates, and enhance overall fleet safety culture. This is an interactive session where participants will explore how supervisors and leaders can effectively promote safety as a core organizational value by directly influencing employee behaviors.

  • The workshop will focus on behavioral techniques that identify, encourage, and sustain safe practices across all levels of fleet operations.
  • Participants will learn how to assess safety-related behaviors, implement reinforcement strategies to promote positive actions, and reduce at-risk behaviors among drivers and staff.
  • Through real-world case studies, hands-on group activities, and strategic discussions, participants will walk away with actionable steps to foster lasting behavior change and cultivate a safety-first mindset within their organizations.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to describe what a safety culture is and identify key elements of a safety culture ; will be able to list where breakdowns in safety culture occur and how to overcome them; will be able to describe basic behavioral principles that can be used to impact safety culture ; and will be able to list various actions a supervisor and leader can engage in to build participation and support in a positive safety culture .

Presentation by Alison Betz and Matthew Betz
Monday, April 28th
12:00 - 1:00 PM

If you are like many other fleet managers, you may be asking why — after allocating resources to train drivers, ordering additional safety equipment for vehicles, and embracing telematics programs — your drivers still exhibit unsafe behaviors. The answer may be that you haven’t addressed the human behavior part of the equation. In this session, a human behavior expert will identify the missing link to changing and improving driver behavior through effective field supervisor safety coaching.

Analyze the basics of human behavior and how to apply them to your fleet safety program.

Assess your program to identify human behavior traps and discuss methods for adjusting your program accordingly.

Learn how to train field supervisors to support drivers and encourage them to employ safe driving behaviors.
