Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): A Review of Selected Research for Practitioners (Including ASD Connections)
Abstract
This presentation provides an overview of treatment options for children diagnosed with ADHD for ABA practitioners. The clinical diagnosis of ADHD is reviewed related to the translation of symptoms for behavior analysts. The lecture includes research primarily from 2010 to 2020 from behavior analytic and other professional fields. Current mainstream research recommendations for children with ADHD are reviewed which include pharmaceutical and behavioral treatments. Topics related to ADHD include ASD/ADHD combinations, sleep-related issues, function-based treatments, assessing function, parent training, teacher training, peer involvement, self-management, and telehealth. Information from this presentation on ADHD provides a broad research overview with references from a plethora of evidence-based options for further study, rather than in-depth detailed treatment methods. It is critical to realize the ADHD diagnosis is composed of behaviors that are responsive to researched behavioral procedures.
