OBM Specialist Certificate - Beta Test

We are offering the OBM Specialist Beta Test at a discounted price in exchange for your feedback!

We Have Exciting News to Share!

ABA Technologies is launching a new OBM certificate through Florida Tech,  which incorporates several years of feedback from past, current and prospective students interested in OBM. We are ready to begin our beta test, and we are looking for interested individuals. We are offering the OBM Specialist Beta Test at a discounted price in exchange for feedback. We hope to refine the content prior to offering project-based coaching that follows this new design, and we are excited to invite our audience to help us shape and refine it.

In the meantime, we will continue to offer the current version of our OBM Certificate as well. If you are eager to begin project-based coaching, please see our current version. The August term is currently open and space is filling up quickly. *The applied course based on our new design is not yet available, as we hope to first refine the content and project toolkit in the beta test.

This beta test does not require students to do their own project in their workplace with a sponsor, although they may choose to complete their own project while taking the course. Students will work through application of the material by following two case studies throughout the course and completing activities and discussion questions.

After completing this course, students will be able to better identify a business opportunity in their workplace, define an OBM project that targets the opportunity, gather a project team and gain ongoing organizational support for the project and navigate the project to completion by following the SPACE model (scope, pinpoint, assess, change, embed). The SPACE model may be compared to six sigma’s DMAIC, as it provides individuals and their project teams with a shared framework, set of tools, process and language to help project teams navigate the application of an OBM project to completion in a way that is understood and supported by organizational stakeholders. Students will receive a fillable PDF toolkit based on the SPACE model in this course.

The SPACE Model

After completing this course, students will be able to better identify a business opportunity in their workplace, define an OBM project that targets the opportunity, gather a project team and gain ongoing organizational support for the project, and navigate the project to completion by following the SPACE Model (Scope, Pinpoint, Assess, Change, Embed). The SPACE Model may be compared to six sigma’s DMAIC, as it provides individuals and their project teams with a shared framework, set of tools, process, and language to help project teams navigate the application of an OBM project to completion in a way that is understood and supported by organizational stakeholders.

Students will receive an interactive PDF toolkit based on the SPACE model in this course.

The course material is split into sections called “Modules” in the online learning management system. The modules will become available to students as the course progresses (e.g., the “Foundations” module will become available to students on week 1; the “Phase 1” module will become available on week 2, etc.). To complete the course, students must complete all required modules. There are 6 main modules, and 5 of them are required. Some modifications are still being made to the material, but it is estimated that students will spend 1.5 - 3 hours per module. The course content includes text, videos, brief knowledge checks, and discussion questions. More details on the September course outline and the dates for the optional meetings coming soon.

OBM Specialist Certificate Beta Test - Course Outline:

Bonus Continuing Education

Additional BACB CEUs will be awarded to beta test students who attend all of the optional Zoom meetings. Students who attend all optional meetings for the bonus CEUs must be present and active for the first 50 minutes of every meeting. Students’ active presence will be monitored by the course instructors via recording the meeting and use of Kahoot activities. Meetings will occur on Wednesday at 12:30 PM (EST) on select weeks. We are expecting to have 4 or 5 meetings. More information about which weeks include optional meetings will be provided closer to the start date of the course.

Preparing for the Meetings

The format of the meetings are planned to be as follows:

10-15-minutes = Kahoot game
20-30-minutes = Content review related to students’ submitted questions
20-30-minutes = Content review related to the prior week’s required discussion question

Important Note

In our efforts to disseminate OBM, we have designed this course to be more friendly to individuals who do not have formal training in behavior analysis. The Foundations module is strongly recommended for students who do not have formal training in behavior analysis. Much of the content in this module will be a review of basic concepts for individuals already formally trained in behavior analysis, so the content in this module does not count toward the BACB CEU calculation and it is optional.

Learn More

Be on the lookout for a blog post and podcast that explains more detail about the lessons learned from the current version of the OBM Certificate, and what students can expect in the OBM Specialist Certificate. Finally, please be patient with us as we continue to learn,  provide updates, and add more information to our websites. We believe we will learn a lot from our students during the beta testing period, and these lessons will inform our final version of the OBM Specialist Certificate and its corresponding resources (book, project-based coaching options, etc.
