Ethics and Professionalism: She Said What?!
Abstract
As laws change and technology progresses, the behaviors we engage in becoming more difficult to classify as either ethical or unethical. What may be legal in some states and not in others makes it difficult to follow certain ethical guidelines. We must also take into consideration the medium in which we communicate and network with other behavior analysts. Social media has allowed us to find fellow behavior analysts as well as facilitate communication and collaboration in a public forum. However, social media has made it easier to violate guidelines regarding client privacy as well as practice. Actions can fall into grey areas between ethical guidelines and we must act more conscientiously to avoid potentially falling on the wrong side. Even though laws and common practices change over time, it is important to remain aware of any changes to our ethical code and to remember there are no unethical behavior analysts just unethical behaviors.
