Many leaders report using the “feedbacksandwich” method to deliver feedback, and some employees even claim to enjoy receiving it, but what effect does this method have on employee performance? This post will highlight some of the most recent evidence on methods of feedback, and why you may want to reconsider delivering that sandwich.
Performance Management (PM) is an approach to producing organizational results by improving the performance of employees throughout an organization. Performance involves all of the different behaviors that employees engage in. Behaviors that contribute to increases in sales, higher customer satisfaction, and higher quality products and services are the building blocks of business results. PM focuses on increasing these critical behaviors by systematically arranging the workplace to maximize productivity.
Employee feedback is critical for personal and business success. Research on feedback shows that intentional and consistent feedback greatly improves staff expertise, productivity, and outcomes. But, knowing that feedback is important and delivering it effectively are two different things.
This episode focuses on the fact that effective supervisory relationships are built on bi-directional collaborative efforts on the part of the supervisor and the supervisee. There are risks for supervisee, supervisor, clients, and the field as a whole if there is no collaborative effort and the two parties do not each feel respected, valued, and acknowledged. The podcast describes strategies for setting expectations for the relationship from the outset and for establishing collaborative goals for supervision. The importance of bi-directional feedback is explored and strategies for creating a committed and healthy learning context are reviewed.
