4 Reasons You Should Take An RBT Class Even If You Are Not A Behavior Analyst

Blogger: Carlos A. Zuluaga, MS, BCBA

    The Science of Behavior

Problems with behavior are very common and difficult to deal with. They can take many forms: from screaming in public to throwing and breaking things, to physical aggression towards self and others. These types of problems have been reported as one of the primary concerns for both parents and teachers. Not knowing how to manage them can be both scary and frustrating. Not having the right tools can make problem behavior unpredictable and its treatment unsuccessful. Fortunately, we have a science dedicated to understanding human behavior so we can learn how to manage it. The name of this science is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

    Learning the Basics

At Florida Tech, we have created an online class to teach you the basics of ABA. This course is designed to train individuals that would like to become Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), which is the first level of certification as an ABA practitioner. If you are a parent or teacher that is concerned with the problem behavior of your children or students, we believe this course could help you. Here are four reasons you should take this class:

    1. You will learn what Applied Behavior Analysis and how its practice is regulated. This will help you identify good ABA services and how to advocate for your children or students.
    2. You will learn the principles of behavior. This knowledge will allow you to understand why your children and students behave the way they do and what to do about it.
    3. You will learn basic procedures to manage behavior. From data collection strategies to guide your decisions, to techniques to teach important skills, to procedures to decrease undesirable behavior.
    4. You will be exposed to some ethical considerations to help you make the right decisions about treatment.

After taking RBT Essentials, you will have the basic knowledge of the science of behavior. Also, you will be able to apply for RBT certification if interested.

This could be the first step in solving problem behaviors at home or school, or the beginning of your journey into a wonderful profession, dedicated to improving people’s lives.

4 Razones Por Las Que Deberías Tomar Una Clase De RBT, Incluso Si No Eres Un Analista De Conducta
